Romantic Paintings Stuart Kirby Take 2

The Ayr Art Circle exhibition at the local Maclaurin Galleries opens on the 19th February...To enter art for this one has to have ones artwork critiqued by fellow members...

Originally as stated in my previous post the painting " A Moment In Love " was going to be exhibited in Edinburgh but I changed my mind after painting 3 more seascapes which will be shown here soon...

Anyway a couple of fellow members from the art circle commented about the distant islands looking like sharks teeth amongst other things so I pondered a while and reworked that section of the painting bringing the island forward by heavier application of the paint and changing the shape...

One member commented they loved the sky but we shall see if there is any response from the viewers at the upcoming exhibition...

Is it an improvement on the original?...Only you can decide...

Details of the exhibition will be posted soon...click here to see more of my seascapes...

Turnberry Golf Course

A belated happy new year to you all...With the festive season over my exhibition deadlines are fast approaching...last week I was mainly painting so it was a welcome break to get out yesterday for some good scottish fresh air.

After a short drive down the coast my partner Evlar and I decided to walk the Ayrshire Coastal Path that runs through Turnberry Golf Course...the game of golf took up many a weekend in my past as a hacking amateur..,

I know it became an obsession...Even watching the TV with Peter Alliss presenting Pro Celebrity Golf from Turnberry...My favourite hole was the 9th on the Ailsa course named "Bruce's Castle" which is historically linked and named after Robert The Bruce...

Standing on the back tee with the thoughts of that tee shot over the rocks brought it all back...

On a arty note as my new paintings dry I shall post a selection here on my blog...

Purple Rain

I painted this abstract expressionistic painting outside plein air style on the patio on an overcast day here in Scotland..

The sun appeared momentarily to be followed by a traditional scottish downpour...

I decided to leave it with the marks made by the rain as I rushed to get the painting and myself undercover...

Entitled " Purple Rain "...

It has now been varnished with a very high gloss finish to enhance the colours...

Romantic Paintings by Stuart Kirby

Well it seems like winter has finally arrived here on the west coast of Scotland....yesterday the peaks of Goatfell on the Isle Of Arran had their first covering of the white stuff...

As a southern softy whilst I don't like the cold I enjoy the winter season here especially when the temperature gets well below freezing and the dampness in the air goes and the sun shines...seemingly more than the summer I feel...

Anyway back to the arty stuff when I was in Edinburgh dropping off my abstract paintings last month at the Gallery On The Corner I was asked to bring along one of my romantic oil paintings for viewing...

Subsequently I have been asked to paint 3 more romantic paintings for exhibition there in February 2012...

So here's a quick snap of the first one...
