Turnberry Golf Painting Finished

12th hole "Monument" Ailsa Course Turnberry Scotland
A change of plan on the Turnberry Golf painting regarding the finish...

I pondered and decided to give it the painterly  brush mark treatment resulting in blocks of colour instead of a smoother appearance...

This gives it a 3 dimension appearance from a distance then as you move closer the painterly brushstrokes show more predominately...

Drying time now then a light application of varnish...

Have a good weekend everyone... :-)

This painting and others are available here

A few years ago I purchased a book by Colley Whisson about impressionistic painting...

Romantic Paintings W.I.P. Update

Romantic Paintings Work In Progress
Well here's the latest image from the work in progress I'm currently working on...

I'm still undecided where it's going so it might all change...

We shall see...

I was recently asked on my facebook art page whether this was from my imagination...

To which I replied well the mountains are a local view to me of the Isle Of Arran but other than that the colours or colors if your across the pond and the rest of the painting are produced without any plan...

As they say just winging it...

Romantic Paintings W.I.P.

Romantic Paintings Stuart Kirby
Greetings...well here is the latest work in progress on the studio easel...

It's another romantic seascape oil painting featuring the Isle Of Arran at the end of the day with a vibrant palette and some heavy impasto...

Living on the Ayrshire coast in Scotland I see this regularly changing vista in its many unique forms and some times not at all as the smir moves up the Firth Of Clyde..

Currently I am waiting for this to dry so I can continue working on it...needing more layers of paint and when they dry selective areas will be glazed...

Thanks for dropping by...

Abstract Paintings Stuart Kirby

Incidence And Reflection Abstract Painting © Stuart Kirby
With the gorgeous sunny weather continuing here on the south west coast of Scotland I've had a few more days playing with the paint outback in the sunshine...

This latest acrylic abstract painting entitled " Incidence And Reflection " is painted on a 30in x 30in x 1.5in deep box canvas...

Many layers of paint and washes of different colour were applied during its creation giving varying amounts of texture over the canvas...

Plein Air Abstract...On The Patio...

Painting any large expressive abstract (40in x 40in x 1.3in) means I have to brave the elements and check the weather forecast for any sign of the wet stuff heading my way here in Scotland...

Yesterday the weather played ball so I took the opportunity to attempt to create an abstract on the patio outback plein air style...

Anyway here's the results so far...the sides still need to be painted and it also needs a title...

Then after 2 weeks of drying an application of gloss varnish to enhance the acrylic colours and protect the painting...

Art Therapy...Romantic Paintings

Back in the spring a collector purchased one of my romantic oil paintings entitled "Caledonian Love" ...

In a follow up email I asked if she could take a photo of the painting in situ and email it back to me...

She replied that she would try but was having her bedroom redecorated and she had decided to get the deep box canvas painting framed...

Recently I received a photo via email of the painting in situ and an email saying sorry for taking so long to reply this was due to being poorly and that viewing the painting on her bad days took her and her husband to another place far away...

As an artist it's nice to know art can be therapeutic and touches us all in different ways...

Mull Of Galloway Scotland

Mull Of Galloway Lighthouse

It's been a while since I posted here...
Domestic chores (oh and sea fishing) have put my artistic creative processes on hold lately...
Recently Evlar and I needed to escape and we drove down to the peninsula known as the Mull Of Galloway the most southerly tip of Scotland...

Irish Sea Side
Across the Solway Firth To England
Looking east across Luce Bay and the Solway Firth you can see the mountains of the Lake District then turning 180 degrees Ireland across the northen channel of the Irish Sea comes into view...

Across the Irish Sea to Ireland in the distance

Having an interest in sea fishing from many moons ago I was naturally
interested to find out online that this area was known for a large variety of species of fish and anglers make their way here from all over the UK...
Portpatrick
Crown Hotel ...A.A.Awarded Seafood Pub Of Scotland
So after finding some shore fishing marks for the future we headed home but not before taking a small diversion to the harbour at Portpatrick for a hot seafood platter at the Crown Hotel...

This peninsula is so beautiful and reminds me of my home county of East Sussex with rolling hills, grazing sheep and sheer sea cliffs albeit solid rock and not chalk...

Scotland Art....Dunure Harbour

A few miles down the coast from me here in Ayrshire is the old fishing village of Dunure...

I love to visit there especially out of the tourist season when one can stroll around more freely and take in the atmosphere and imagine times gone by...

This impressionistic painting of the harbour shows the view looking out to the Isle Of Arran across the Firth Of Clyde...

Painted on a 7in x 5in gessoed hardboard using mainly transparent acrylics and varnished for colour enhancement and protection...

Scottish Landscape Art

Here this week on the south west coast of Scotland we managed to get away with light snow flurries...fortunately it didn't lay compared to the east coast where there was major disruption together with the north of England as the weather front headed south over the border...

Anyway this impressionistic landscape painting is of Loch Riecawr in the Galloway Forest...I like to play with colour or color depending on where you reside...

Painted on a 7in x 5in hardboard panel in acrylic...gloss varnished for protection and colour enhancement...

Glasgow Art Show....mmmm....

Yesterday I headed into Glasgow for a wander round the inaugural Glasgow Art Show at the Thistle Hotel...After attending last years Edinburgh Art Fair in november I was interested to see if galleries on this circuit were displaying fresh artworks from the artists they represent...

After meandering my way through the corridors I finally came across the entrance to the show...I always feel sorry for those exhibitors who have paid their fee to find they are in the corner by the entrance..luck of the draw I guess...

Wandering round it soon became apparent I was viewing occasional works I had seen in Edinburgh from some of the attending galleries...polymer resin coated abstracts, opal dust encrusted paintings that change colour dependent on your angle of view to name a few...

I like to get up close and look at the brushwork etc of certain pieces...on an occasion yesterday an over zealous gallery member of staff/owner enquired within a minute if I was interested in the artists work and would I like to purchase one as he had six on display...I replied I was just browsing at the moment thank you and slowly withdrew...

I guess the format gets predictable but it must work for the organisers and for the galleries as paintings were being wrapped...and as I overheard one member of public say to gallery staff "art is subjective isn't it"...

My favourite booth was " Other Points Of View " which consisted of 5 artists attending as a collective...

I got chatting to one David Brightmore after being drawn to and admiring his vibrant acrylic and ink figure-scape paintings...the collective consisted of 5 guys who went to uni in Sheffield back in the 60's...David's work can be viewed here...

After chatting about the current environment of the art market business with the guy on the Ginny Gray stand the words "peaks and troughs" were confirmed...

Much like other businesses in these economic times I suppose...
